Wally Irizarry
Bass, rhythm guitar, vocals
Wally Irizarry began playing the guitar at age 11 and advanced to bass guitar at age 17 when his older brother Arnie needed a bassist for his rock band. He began listening to bass players like Mel Sachler, Geezer Butler & Gene Simmons, which later led him to the Isley Brothers, Motown and the sounds of Brian Auger. His greatest influence was the late Jaco Pastorious who helped redefine Wally’s own bass sound and how the bass should be played.

Another turning point in Wally’s playing career was the Santana “Abraxas” album. Wally puts it this way: "The first time that I heard Black Magic Woman, I knew that it would change my entire way of playing the bass forever." Thus began his interest in Latin music and it took him on a journey that forged his present style. He has a passion for playing because within his heart lies the most powerful of bass lines, ones that are sure to touch the mind, spirit & soul of the audience.

Wally is a great ensemble player. Whether playing bass or rhythm guitar, his chops, “feel” and taste add serious musicianship to every Taboo performance.
